Editorial policy

This page sets out how content on Specialty Contact Lens is produced — what we will and will not publish, how sources are handled, who owns the site and what commercial relationships exist. We take no payment for coverage, rank no brands, and publish no statistics we cannot source. Where our ownership overlaps with another site we link to, we say so on the page.

Scope

This policy covers every page on specialtycontactlens.org.

What we publish

Information about specialty contact lenses: what each type is, the mechanism by which it works, who it is typically fitted for, what the fitting process involves, where it falls short, and what to ask the practitioner fitting you.

What we will not publish

  • Outcome claims. We do not state how well you will see, how comfortable a lens will be for you, or what proportion of people succeed in a given lens. These depend on an individual eye and an individual fitting.
  • Unsourced statistics. If a figure cannot be traced to a published source, it does not go on the page. We would rather omit a number than repeat a plausible one.
  • Brand rankings. No “best lens” lists. Which design suits an eye is a clinical question, and a ranking would misrepresent it.
  • Paid placement of any kind. No manufacturer, laboratory, practice or advertiser pays to appear here, to be described favourably, or to be excluded.
  • Testimonials or case photographs we have not obtained properly, with consent, from a real source.
  • Anything that substitutes for examination. We do not diagnose, do not recommend a lens for an individual, and do not comment on a fitting someone has had elsewhere.

How pages are written and reviewed

Pages are written and maintained by the Specialty Lens Team and carry a team byline. Every page shows a last reviewed date.

Each lens page states the limitations of that lens as well as its uses. This is deliberate: a page listing only advantages cannot help anyone decide between options.

Where a topic is covered in greater depth on a site we link to, we link rather than reproduce it thinly.

Corrections

We correct errors. If you find something wrong, out of date or misleading — particularly if you are a practitioner — email info@specialtycontactlens.org and tell us what is wrong and, if you can, what it should say. Substantive corrections update the review date on the page.

Ownership and commercial relationships

We think the honest test for any link is this: would this link exist if the two sites had different owners? We link to Scleral Lens Guide because it is genuinely the more detailed resource on sclerals, and we would link to it on that basis regardless of who ran it. Where that test is not met, we do not link.

Beyond that:

  • We fit no lenses, run no practice and sell no products.
  • We accept no payment for coverage, placement, linking or favourable description.
  • We run no advertising.
  • We list and rank no practices or practitioners, so there is no listing to influence.

If any of this changes — if advertising is introduced, or a directory is added — this page will be updated to say so before it goes live, not after.

Medical information

Content on this site is general information about contact lens types. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it does not create a practitioner relationship.

Specialty lens fitting depends on measurements of your own eyes that only an in-person examination can provide. Nothing here replaces the judgement of the optometrist or ophthalmologist fitting you.
